At tomorrow’s IoD Annual Convention I will be taking to the stage to pose questions to some of the UK’s best known business people. I hope that the event will provide an informed message of how business leaders can better lead their organisations and provide them with a positive message on the outlook for the year ahead.
From my experience of the event over the past few years, I have learnt that the unexpected speakers are usually the most interesting. In particular I thought Kevin Spacey, back in 2008, was outstanding and perhaps not too surprisingly, Peter Mandleson in 2009. However, one of my favourite parts of the day has to be the Entrepreneurs’ Panel. It always very interesting to see how the young business men and women have made so much progress in such a short time, they always have very interesting lessons that can be learnt by others in business.
In addition to the business speakers, each year, we hear from key political figures in the UK. This year George Osborne MP and Ed Balls MP will also be joining us. It will be interesting to hear Osborne’s plans for the UK, as I do feel that he must stick to his economic policies and resist the temptation to raise taxes if government income slows. It will also be interesting to see how Ed Balls proposes to get the Labour government to appeal to the business community.
I hope that everyone enjoys the day and gets a lot out of it, and welcome you to share your highlights from the day here.
